Adoption Counseling

With National Adoption Month coming to a close in 2011, hundreds of children in Texas will officially belong to a family through adoption. Adoption finalizations have been characterized as a time of great joy for children and families; an infant or an older child now has a mother and father to call their own along with siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. While standing before the judge and smiling relatives, Adoptive Parents are happily overwhelmed knowing that from now on, this child whom they achingly longed for will always be theirs.

After the Decree of Adoption has been filed in the courts and the child goes home with their new parents, a new leg of the adoption journey begins. So often we forget about the challenges that are presented down the road as the child grows up and begins to process their dual identities as an adoptee. It’s also easy to gradually forget about what might happen to the birth parents and birth families…although their legal rights to their child have been terminated, it doesn’t mean their hearts stop beating for them. As adoptive parents are faced with the challenge of navigating the unknown, they need guidance and support to aid them and their children during the difficult times. Adoption is a lifelong journey for all members involved. With that being said, AdoptionWorks and CounselingWorks have recently collaborated together to fill a longtime need in the adoption community. Now members of the adoption triad: Birth Parents, Adoptive Parents, and Adoptees can access low-cost, adoption-related counseling through licensed professional counselors and social workers who make up a combined 45 years of professional and personal experience in adoption. If you are interested or know someone who would be interested in accessing this unique service, please call us at (972) 960-9981. We are very excited to serve children and families in the adoption community and look forward to hearing from you soon!

Remember Grieving Children This Season

Thursday November 17th marks the fourth annual Children’s Grief Awareness Day.  Mourning children, their friends and encouragers around the nation wear blue that day as a way to show their care and support for children struggling after the death of a loved one.

GriefWorks and ChristianWorks ask you to show your care for mourning children not only on November 17th but well into the weeks ahead.  The holiday season, a typically difficult time for those in grief, can be extremely hard on grieving children and teens.

Unfortunately young people in grief are overlooked for many reasons.  If you know a family struggling with the death of a loved one, make special efforts to include the children and teens in your efforts to help and support the family.

GriefWorks, the free children’s grief support program serving ages 5-18 and their adult family members in North Texas, provides a healing atmosphere for children in grief.  Click here to hear Katie’s experience at GriefWorks.  Mourning children and their families can start their own GriefWorks experience by contacting us at 972-960-9981.

Our Mission

Christ told his disciples to “permit the children to come to me, stop hindering them, the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  Mark 10:14. ChristianWorks for Children is about giving children the opportunity to experience the hope, love, faith, and grace of Jesus Christ even during life’s most difficult circumstances and situations. We intend to remove hindrances of children that can prevent them from the experience of God’s goodness and grace through Jesus Christ.

  1. Sometimes the hindrance of abandonment through AdoptionWorks
  2. Sometimes the hindrance of a physical death through GriefWorks
  3. Sometimes the hindrance of divorce through KidWorks
  4. Sometimes the hindrance of distress through CounselingWorks.

These are the Lord’s ministries that began in 1967 at ChristianWorks for Children. Join us for comments on our blog, and follow us on Facebook, and Twitter to experience the joy of God at work in the lives of children today.

Once Christ removed the hindrances from the children coming to Him then, “He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.” Mark 10:16

Our mission is to represent the goodness of God to children and their families by continuing Jesus Christ’s example of service.
