What is JustFamily?

JustFamily is a safe, supportive place for blending families to be just family. It is an eight-week program provided without charge at ChristianWorks for Children.

Just Family Services

JustFamily seeks to provide a safe place for blended families where the questions surrounding security, position, and life changes
are explored, identified and expressed in hopes of mitigating any of the pitfalls of blending a family.

Who should come to JustFamily?

Children ages 5-18 and their parents/stepparents who are wanting to cultivate a place of belonging within the family. Groups are divided by 5-8, 9-12, 13-18 and adults. It is important and required for both spouses to attend the couples group so they may discuss the needs of each family member, effective parenting skills and their own wants and desires within the family unit.

What will I do at JustFamily?

Children can share their experiences and express their feelings through play including art, puppets, books, games and other creative activities under the supervision of trained, caring facilitators. And parents will be learning helpful tips with their children and share their own stories and desires with each other.

Each week the groups will focus on a different topic relating to blended families:

  • Family
  • Fears & Worries
  • Belonging
  • Changes
  • Trust
  • JustFamily
  • Feelings
  • Sharing
How does group support help blended
families become stronger?

Research shows that couples in stepfamilies have three times the amount of stress of couples in first marriages during the first few years and that children experience lower over-all emotional, psychological, and academic well-being when exposed to numerous parental partnerships.

JustFamily seeks to provide a safe place for blended families where the questions surrounding security, position, and life changes are explored, identified and expressed in hopes of mitigating any of the pitfalls of blending a family.

How much does JustFamily Cost?

JustFamily Support Groups are free for children and their parents. We are funded through generous donors and private funding in order to provide these groups. We ask that each individual/family selected strongly consider the stewardship of those who graciously fund this program by committing their time and energy to the entirety of the program.

When is JustFamily offered?

JustFamily is a 5-week program offered twice a year in the spring and fall. We currently do not have a session available.

Where is JustFamily offered?

JustFamily support groups meet at the ChristianWorks Dallas office.

How can my Family Learn More About Participating in JustFamily?

New families are required to attend an orientation before attending a group. This meeting will help us place you in a group that we feel will help the needs of your family. It will also provide you and your family with the information needed to participate. If you are interested in signing your family up for JustFamily, please fill out our contact form or contact us at 972-960-9981.

What is the difference in support for
blending families and counseling?

Blended families are not broken families that need to be fixed. They are families that need to be given a place where they feel comfortable enough to express hopes and hurts. Therefore support services are not treatment nor counseling. Support is listening, being present to children and their parents as they share thoughts and experiences, express feelings and desires and ask important questions. If a family member has attended JustFamily and their facilitator feels that he/she might need additional support, we can refer you to CounselingWorks where we have a variety of licensed professional counselors on staff available to provide individual therapeutic services.
